Dear prospective employer,

Everyone has a story to tell. Most just need a person who is skilled in asking the right questions, pulling in the right details and assembling the perfect collection of characters to fully share a story that draws others in and invites them to participate in their experiences.

I believe that the best way to tell their story is the one that most connects with the targeted audience. For some, that could be a few eloquently constructed paragraphs that draw the reader into another human being's experience. For others, it could be a collection of photographs that help the viewer place themselves in the sights, smells and sounds of a location. In other storytelling situations, it could mean using photographs, voice-overs and video to show the emotion and vivid color in which some people live their lives.

Although I'm passionate about traveling the world and telling the stories of women and children in the developing world whose lives are adversely affected by issues that we in the first world can't comprehend, I realize that women and children in my neighborhood also have stories to tell. My life goal is to give a voice to both groups and use the best medium available to do so.

Whether your project is a large collaboration between twenty professionals with varying areas of expertise and experience or a small two-person production, I welcome the challenge of working to tell the stories you aim to produce. As a University of Missouri journalism graduate student, we’re trained to learn while doing and push ourselves creatively to communicate effectively with our unseen audience. I look forward to putting this determined pursuit of excellence in storytelling to work for you as well.

Thank you in advance for your consideration. I hope to hear from you in the near future.

Sincerely,

Roxanne Foster
